• Identify your patriot ancestor. The NSDAR’s Genealogical Research System provides a great start.

• Fill out a membership interest form on the NSDAR website requesting the Lynchburg Chapter. We reply to every inquiry. The Lynchburg Chapter registrar can assist you throughout the process. Please feel free to contact her at lynchburgdar@gmail.com.

• If you have family members (for example, a mother, aunt, sister, or cousin) who are or were NSDAR members, their genealogical research already on file with NSDAR will be a great help to you in your application process.

• Research your family tree, starting with yourself and moving backwards. Official documents such as birth certificates and marriage licenses will be crucial. Documents such as wills, property deeds, tax rolls, and military pension applications are very helpful.

• Assemble detailed information and clear documentation to prove the lineage linking you back through every generation to your patriot ancestor.
